The month strip and data warnings

This page is for anyone using the Compliance overview or a section page who wants to choose a month, understand a data warning, or upload a missing month's logs.

What is the month strip?

The month strip sits in the page header of the Compliance overview, MOT test logs, At-risk tests, Testers, TQI, Performance, Vehicles, Documents, Certificates and Monthly sign-off. It shows three months side by side as buttons, with the month you are viewing on the right. Select a month button to view that month. The arrows ‹ and › on either side step back or forward one month at a time.

You can step back up to 36 months, counting the current month. The latest month you can view is the current month. The strip is the same scope as the picker in the top bar, so a change in one is a change in the other.

What do "in progress" and "no data" on a month button mean?

The · no data labels fill in a few seconds after the page loads, because MOTLogs checks each month in the background.

Can I sign off the current month?

No. You can view the current month, but you cannot sign it off until it ends. The Sign off button on the Compliance overview is greyed out, and the Sign Off button on section pages is hidden. The Monthly sign-off page greys out each row's Sign off button, with the tooltip "Month in progress — sign off once it has ended". Sign off the month after it ends.

What does the warning under the header mean?

When the month you are viewing has no MOT test log, an amber warning appears under the page header. For example:

⚠ No MOT log for Sep 2026 · latest is Jul 2026

The warning has an ⓘ icon, a ghost button and an orange button:

  1. Hover over or select ⓘ to read how to get the file: in the MOT testing service, go to Download test logs, choose the month and save the CSV, then drop it on the page or select Upload logs.
  2. Upload Sep logs opens the Upload logs window. The month name matches the month you are viewing.
  3. View Jul 2026 switches the page to the newest month that has an MOT test log.

If the current month has no log yet, the warning reads No MOT log for Oct yet (month in progress). If nothing has ever been uploaded, it reads No MOT logs loaded yet.

On the Compliance overview, a different warning, Latest MOT log: Jul 2026 (uploaded 12 Aug), appears when the month you are viewing has a log but one or more later finished months do not. Its tooltip lists the missing months.

What does a "no data" panel do?

When a section page has no data for the month, it shows a panel in place of the table. The panel has a drop area. Drop a CSV file on the box and MOTLogs uploads it straight away, then reloads your figures. You can also select Upload logs on the panel. The drop area accepts .csv and .xls files only. If the server cannot read the file, the panel says The server could not read this file. Check it is an unmodified MTS export.

Where do I upload logs from now?

There is one Upload logs window. Open it from the orange Upload logs button in the page header, from the top bar, or from a warning or panel button. Every one of them opens the same window. The old amber Data is N days old badge no longer appears. See Uploading MOT test logs.
