Viewing the MOT test log
This page is for garage owners, Authorised Examiners (AEs), quality control managers and MOT testers who want to read the list of MOT tests that MOTLogs holds for a station and month. After reading it you will know what each column means, how to sort, search and page through the list, and what the colours mean. For an introduction to the product, see What is MOTLogs.
Where do I find the MOT test log?
Open MOT test logs in the left-hand menu of the signed-in area. The page is headed MOT test logs with the line "Every MOT test, with the checks that flag it." On a phone, the MOT log tab in the bottom tab bar opens the same page.
The list shows one row per MOT test for the organisation, station and month you have chosen in the scope picker at the top of the screen. Change the organisation, station or month there and the list reloads. Choose All stations (if you have more than one) to see every station together.
If you have not chosen an organisation, the page shows "Choose an organisation to see mot test logs." If no organisation is linked to your sign-in, it shows "No organisation is linked to your account yet." Contact the person who invited you, or see Uploading MOT test logs if you are setting up for the first time.
What does the summary line under the heading say?
Under the heading, MOTLogs shows a one-line summary of the list you are looking at, for example:
1,284 tests in September · 6 flagged · 2 justified
- tests is the number of tests loaded for the chosen station and month (before any chip filter is applied).
- flagged is the number of tests that are at risk and have not yet been justified. See What makes a test at-risk.
- justified is the number of tests that have been marked complete with a comment. See Justifying a test.
If the month has no tests, the summary line is blank.
What does each column show?
The list has these columns, left to right:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Vehicle | Number plate, then make and model underneath. |
| When | Test start, for example 14 Sep · 09:32. |
| Tester | The tester's DVSA user ID (not their name). |
| Type | The test type abbreviation, such as a normal test or retest. |
| Time | How long the test took, in whole minutes, for example 27 min. Blank if under 30 seconds or not recorded. |
| Result | Pass, Pass (PRS) or Fail. Any other result is shown as the DVSA wrote it. |
| Flag | Severity and top reason, for example High · Out of hours. Blank if the test is not flagged. |
| Comment | The comment saved against the test. Hover over it to read the whole comment. |
The Tester column shows the DVSA user ID because that is what the MOT test log export contains. For other terms, see the glossary.
What do the coloured row edges mean?
Each flagged row has a coloured edge on its left and a pill in the Flag column:
- High (red): the test has the highlight flag, or a risk score of 90 or more.
- Medium (amber): a risk score of 26 to 89.
- Justified (blue): the test was at risk but has been marked complete with a comment.
- No edge: the test is not at risk.
Tests that were justified stay in the list as Justified; they no longer count as flagged.
How do I sort, search and page through the list?
- Sort: click a column heading. Click again to reverse the order. Sorting the Flag column orders by risk score.
- Search: type in the Search box on the toolbar above the list. It searches the text in the list's columns.
- Page size: use the page-size menu at the bottom. The choices are
5,10,15(the default),20,50andAll. - Hide Complete: the Hide Complete button on the toolbar reloads the list with justified (complete) tests moved to the end, so unreviewed tests come first. The button then changes to Show Complete; click it to restore the normal order. Despite the name, it moves complete tests to the end rather than removing them.
Can I export the MOT test log?
No. The MOT test log page has no export or download button. To get a record out of MOTLogs for your files, use the sign-off document described in Signing off a site for the month.
What does the MOT test log look like on a phone?
On a screen narrower than about 640 pixels the list shows only Vehicle, When and Result. The flag pill appears under the number plate. Tap a row to open the full details, including the tester, type, time and comment. See Reviewing a flagged test.
What does an empty list mean?
- "No MOT tests in this period." means no tests are loaded for the organisation, station and month in the scope picker. Check the month, then see Fixing missing or wrong test data.
- "No at-risk tests this period" (with a green tick) appears on the at-risk view when tests exist but none are flagged. That is good news.
