Getting TQI into MOTLogs
This page is for Authorised Examiners and site managers who need to download Test Quality Information from DVSA and load it into MOTLogs.
How do I get TQI into MOTLogs?
MOTLogs does not collect TQI for you. You download a CSV from the DVSA MOT testing service and upload it. The steps are:
- Sign in to the MOT testing service and open Test quality information.
- Choose your site and the month, and pick the vehicle group (Group A for classes 1 and 2, Group B for classes 3, 4, 5 and 7).
- Download the CSV. Managers can download the file that includes every tester plus the site and national averages.
- In MOTLogs, select Upload logs in the top bar (or Upload TQI on an empty TQI log page).
- Drop the CSV onto the upload area, or select it.
Requires the Authorised Examiner or Site Manager role in the MOT testing service to download the file.
TQI is optional. MOTLogs works from your test logs without it, but the national comparison and tester benchmarks need it. See Using the TQI log page.
Where is the upload button?
There are three places:
- Upload logs in the top bar, on every signed-in page. It opens an Upload logs dialog.
- Upload TQI on the TQI log page. This button only appears when no TQI is loaded for the month you chose or the six months before it. It opens the upload panel inside the page.
- Upload logs on the Overview page, shown when your data is out of date and when you first set up.
Once TQI is loaded, the TQI log page itself has no upload button. Use the top bar instead.
Which files does the upload accept?
The upload area accepts files ending .csv or .xls. Any other extension is marked Failed straight away with the message ".xxx files can't be uploaded. Export a .csv (or .xls) from MTS instead."
MOTLogs reads the content, not the file name, to decide what the file is. A file is treated as TQI when the heading on row 11 of the CSV reads Initial test performance. It takes the station number, month and vehicle group from the header rows at the top of the file, so do not edit the CSV before uploading it.
The upload list labels a file TQI if its name contains "tqi", otherwise MOT test log. That label is a guess from the name only and does not affect how the file is processed.
What happens after I upload?
Each file in the list shows a size, a kind and a status: Queued, Uploading..., Uploaded or Failed. When at least one file uploads, MOTLogs reloads the page data. The TQI log page then shows the new figures straight away.
If you upload TQI for a month you have already loaded, the new file is processed in the same way. Comments and sign-offs on TQI figures are held separately; see Commenting on and attesting a TQI figure.
What if the upload fails?
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Bad file format for <name>. |
The file is not a recognised test log, TQI or station file. | Download the CSV again from the MOT testing service and upload it without opening and re-saving it. |
The file is too short or not in a recognised format. |
The file has fewer than two columns or no rows. | Check you downloaded the full report, not an empty month. |
The server could not read this file. Check it is an unmodified MTS export. |
The server returned an unreadable error. | Upload the original export. |
The file could not be processed. |
The file looked right but failed while loading. | Try again; if it repeats, contact support with the file name. |
Some files could not be uploaded. See the list above. |
At least one file in the batch failed. | Read the red message beside each failed file. |
