Reading the tester figures

This page is for quality control managers and Authorised Examiners who want to understand the Tests, Fail %, At-risk and Median columns on the Testers page.

What period do the tester figures cover?

The figures cover the month selected in the scope picker at the top of the screen. Change the month there and the Tests, Fail %, At-risk and Median columns reload. The Last test column is different: it is the tester's most recent test ever, not just in the month.

What does the Tests column show?

Tests is the number of MOT tests the tester carried out at that station in the month. If the tester has no tests in the month, it shows 0. If the figures cannot be loaded, every figure cell shows a dash (–). Reload the page or change the month and back.

What does the "small sample" badge mean?

A dashed small sample badge next to the test count means the tester did fewer than 30 tests in the month. Hover over it to read "Small sample: fewer than 30 tests this period, so rates can swing a lot." Treat the Fail % of a small-sample tester with caution: one extra failure moves it a long way.

What does Fail % show?

Fail % is the share of the tester's tests with a result starting with F (failed) out of the tests that have a result, shown to one decimal place, for example 18.5%. It shows – if the tester has no tests with a result.

What does the At-risk column show?

At-risk is a count of the tester's tests in the month that are flagged as at risk and have no comment yet. A tester with one or more shows a red pill such as ⚠ 3. A tester with none shows 0. Tests that already have a comment (attested) are not counted.

What does the Median column show?

Median is the middle test duration for the tester in the month, in whole minutes, for example 42 min. Tests with no recorded duration are ignored. It shows – if no durations exist.

What does the Inactive badge mean?

An Inactive badge appears beside Last test when the tester's last test is more than 60 days before the latest last-test date among the testers at the same station. Hover to read "No test in the last 60 days". The badge compares testers with each other, not with today's date. If the whole station went quiet, nobody is marked inactive.
