Finding your way around MOTLogs

This page is for anyone who has signed in. It explains the sidebar, the top bar, the Help dialog, the account menu and the phone layout.

What is in the sidebar?

The sidebar on the left lists every page, in five groups.

The current page is highlighted. MOT test logs and At-risk are the same page; At-risk is the version filtered to flagged tests, and the highlight follows the filter. Select ML MOTLogs at the top to go to Compliance.

How do I collapse the sidebar?

Select Collapse at the bottom of the sidebar. It shrinks to a narrow strip of icons, and the button changes to Expand sidebar. Hover over an icon to see its page name. The choice is remembered on your device.

What is in the top bar?

From left to right on a wide screen:

• The menu button (narrow screens only), which opens the sidebar.
• The scope picker, showing organisation, station and month. See Choosing organisation, station and month.
• The search box: Search or enter a reg. See Searching and jumping to pages.
• Upload logs, which opens the Upload logs dialog.
• The light/dark theme button.
• The Help button (question mark).
• The Notifications bell.
• Your picture, which opens the account menu.

What does the Notifications bell do?

Nothing yet. The bell is a placeholder: no notification feed exists, so it shows no count and selecting it does not open anything.

How do I get help inside MOTLogs?

Select the question-mark button in the top bar, or choose Help from the search box. A dialog opens with short videos for the page you are on, which you can step through with the arrows. The videos shown follow the page you are on. It opens by itself for your first two sign-ins. On a phone, Help is in the More menu.

What is in the account menu?

Select your picture, top right. The menu shows your name and:

• Profile: your own details.
• Theme: Dark, Light or High contrast. See Themes and keyboard shortcuts.
• Keyboard shortcuts.
• Logout: ends your session and returns you to the MOTLogs front page.

Press Esc to close the menu.

How do I use MOTLogs on a phone?

Below 768 pixels wide, a tab bar appears along the bottom with five buttons: Overview, At-risk, Search, Testers and More. Search opens the search box. More opens the sidebar, which on phones also contains Help, About, Privacy and Terms, which are hidden from the footer on small screens.

What does the footer show?

The footer shows the company details, links to About, Contact, Privacy and Terms, and the Open Government Licence v3.0 notice for the public sector data MOTLogs uses.
