Creating your user and completing first-time set up

This page is for new users. It explains how to start a free trial, receive your passcode, and finish the three set-up steps that MOTLogs shows on first sign-in.

How do I start a free trial?

On the sign-in page, select Start free trial (bottom left) or the Register link under the sign-in form. The page changes to Create your account.

1. Enter your Email.
2. Enter your Phone (placeholder 07700 900123). It must be a UK telephone number.
3. Enter your Full name.
4. Select Start free trial. By doing so you agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy linked above the button.

All three fields are required. The messages are Please enter Email Address., Please enter Telephone Number. / Please enter a UK telephone number., and Please enter Full Name.

MOTLogs then shows Check your email for your passcode and emails the passcode to the address you gave. The email subject is Welcome to MOT Logs. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive. Select Sign in to go back and follow Signing in to MOTLogs.

Can I go back to signing in?

Yes. Select Already registered? Sign In under the form. You can also open the sign-in page with ?signup=true on the end to land on the registration form.

If registration fails, a toast shows the reason. If someone has already created your user, use the passcode reminder on the sign-in page instead of registering again.

What is the set-up page?

After your first correct one-time code, if any of the following is missing, MOTLogs opens Complete Set Up (/membersarea/completeregistration):

• Your telephone number is not verified.
• You have no organisation.
• You have no test station.

It only appears on your first few sign-ins: once you have signed in more than five times it stops forcing you there. A progress list shows three steps: Your profile, Your organisation and Your test station. Completed steps show a tick and are removed from the list below. A Skip for now link takes you straight on to your landing page.

How do I complete the three steps?

The page shows one step at a time in an accordion. Only the first unfinished step is open.

1. Your Profile. Verify your telephone number on your profile.
2. Add Your Organisation. Link yourself to your Authorised Examiner organisation.
3. Connect To Your Test Station. Connect a testing station. This step is greyed out until you have an organisation.

When all three are complete, MOTLogs takes you on to your landing page automatically. The detail of each step is the same as on the Profile, Organisations and Test stations pages in the sidebar.
