Verifying your email address
This page is for anyone who received a MOTLogs email asking them to verify their email address. It explains what the link does and what to do if it fails.
What happens when I select the verification link?
The link in the email opens a page titled Email Verification at /verification/ followed by a code. You do not need to be signed in. MOTLogs checks the code as soon as the page loads.
- If it works, the page says
This email address has now been verified. - If it fails, the page says
Sorry there has been an issue verifiying this email address.(the spelling is as shown on the page) and a message toast gives the reason.
Either way the page ends with Please close this window when ready. There is nothing else to select.
Why did verification fail?
The code in the link can only be used once, so the page checks it only the first time it loads. Reloading the page, or opening the link a second time, can therefore show the failure message even though the first attempt worked. Common causes:
- The link has already been used.
- The link was cut off by your email program, so the code is incomplete.
If the link keeps failing, ask for a new one: on your Profile page, change your email address and save. MOTLogs then sends a verification email to the new address, and marks it unverified until you use that link.
Do I have to verify my email to sign in?
The sign-in page does not check it, so you can sign in without verifying. The one-time code still goes to the email address on your user, so that address must be one you can read.
