What is MOTLogs
This page is for garage owners, Authorised Examiners, quality control managers and MOT testers who want to know what MOTLogs does and how its areas fit together.
What does MOTLogs do?
MOTLogs is a web app for UK MOT testing stations. You upload your MOT test logs, and MOTLogs analyses them together with the DVSA Test Quality Information (TQI) for your testers and stations. It scores each test, marks the ones that need a second look as At-risk, and keeps the records you need to show the DVSA that you reviewed them.
In practice it helps you do four things:
- Find unusual tests before a DVSA Vehicle Examiner does.
- Compare each tester's quality figures against the national average.
- Record who reviewed a flagged test and why it was fine (an attestation).
- Sign off each station's month and keep station documents and certificates in one place.
MOTLogs does not show you the DVSA's own red, amber or green risk rating for your station. DVSA does not publish it.
Who is MOTLogs for?
MOTLogs is built for the people who are responsible for the quality of MOT testing at a station:
- Authorised Examiners (AEs) and their delegates and consultants, who are accountable to the DVSA for the station.
- Site managers and quality control (QC) managers, who review flagged tests day to day.
- MOT testers, who can see their own month on the My work page.
- Garage owners who want to know how their station looks before a visit.
You sign in with your email address, so each person has their own sign-in. See Signing in to MOTLogs.
How do the roles differ?
What you see depends on your role at each organisation. MOTLogs uses these roles:
| Role | What it means in MOTLogs |
|---|---|
| Authorised Examiner | The main role for an organisation. Can sign off a station's month and can set delegates and consultants. |
| Authorised Examiner delegate | Acts for the Authorised Examiner. Can sign off a station's month. |
| Authorised Examiner consultant | An external adviser appointed by the Authorised Examiner. Can add consultant comments to a monthly sign-off, but cannot sign it. |
| Site manager | Manages a station. Lands on the At-risk tests list after signing in. |
| Tester | Not a separate role. Anyone with a DVSA tester id on their profile gets the My work page and lands on it. |
If a page tells you that you do not have the role it needs, ask your Authorised Examiner to change it.
How do the areas fit together?
After you sign in, the left-hand sidebar is split into five groups.
| Sidebar group | Items | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Overview | Compliance, Performance, My work | Where your station stands this month. My work only appears if your profile has a DVSA tester id. |
| Tests | MOT test logs, At-risk, Monthly sign-off | The individual tests, the flagged ones, and the monthly sign-off. |
| People | Testers, TQI | Each tester and the quality figures for them. |
| Stations | Test stations, Organisations, Vehicles, Documents, Certificates | The set-up of your organisations and stations, and the records you keep. |
| Account | Billing, Profile | Your plan and your own details. |
The sidebar, the scope picker, search and the other controls are explained in Finding your way around. New terms are explained in the glossary.
What is the order of work each month?
- Upload your test logs with the Upload logs button.
- Open At-risk and review each flagged test.
- Check Testers and TQI for unusual differences.
- Use Monthly sign-off to record that the station's month has been reviewed.
