Reading a test's Details, Concerns and Test History
This page is for AEs, quality control managers and testers who open the full record of an MOT test and want to understand the Details tab, the Concerns list and the Test History tab.
What is on the Details tab?
The Details tab of the Comment on your MOT Log window is read-only. The left card lists:
- Registration, Make, Model and Fuel Type
- MOT Test Number and PRS Test Number (the linked partial-retest number, if any)
- DVSA User (the tester) and Test Type
- Test Start Time and Test End Time
- Test Day Of Week and Test Result
- Photo and Reason for no photo, shown only when the test log has a photo entry
You cannot edit any of these fields; they come from the DVSA test log you uploaded. If one is wrong, correct it in the source and upload again; see Fixing missing or wrong test data.
What are Concerns?
The right-hand card is headed Concerns. It lists each check that fired for this test, in plain English, with the key values (times, IP addresses, tester IDs). Expand an item to read why it matters and what to check.
If nothing fired, it says "No concerns for this test."
Concerns explain flags; they do not decide whether a test is at risk. For the rule, see What makes a test at-risk.
Which concerns can appear?
| Concern | Shown when |
|---|---|
| Out of Hours Test | Started or finished outside your declared DVSA hours. |
| Test carried out in reserved time (early) / (late) | Outside your working hours. |
| MOT carried out during lunch break | In the lunch window. |
| Two MOTs carried out concurrently on one Ramp | Ramp overlap. |
| MOT Logon (or Off) from unexpected Network IP Address | IP address not declared for the station. |
| Network IP address changed between Start and End of Test | Different IPs at start and end. |
| The MOT was either Abandoned or Aborted | An abort or abandon reason is set. |
| The Tester recording the test results is not the vehicle tester | Another user recorded a contingency test. |
| Contingency test items | CT recorded by the tester, CT date, CT reason, CT code, and CT recorded outside DVSA or working hours. |
| Test time shorter / longer than expected, too short, too long | Duration outside the range for Group A, Group B, a retest, or either group with PRS. |
| Less secure secondary authentication | Login at start or at completion was not 2FA. |
| Browser or cookie different | Browser agent or cookie changed between start and end. |
| Brake results | No brake entry, decelerometer used exclusively for two days, or decelerometer results typed in manually. |
| Emissions | Test or retest recorded without connected emissions results. |
| No vehicle photo uploaded to MTS | The log has no photo entry; the reason given in MTS is added. |
The photo concern is advice only. It does not raise the risk score, and a missing photo is not a failure in itself.
What is the Test History tab?
Test History shows the vehicle's earlier MOT tests as recorded by the DVSA at the time the log was loaded. The columns are Number, Completed, Expires, Value and Unit (odometer reading), Result and Defects. Use it to compare the odometer and defects with this test, for example to spot a mileage that goes backwards.
If MOTLogs holds no history for the vehicle, the table is empty.
