Signing in to MOTLogs

This page is for anyone with a MOTLogs user. It explains the two steps of signing in, what to do when the code does not arrive or is rejected, and what happens when your session ends.

How do I sign in?

Signing in has two steps: your email address and passcode, then a six-digit one-time code sent by email. Go to /signin on the MOTLogs site.

1. Enter your Email address.
2. Enter your Passcode. This is the permanent passcode MOTLogs emailed you when you registered. Select the eye button next to the field to show or hide it.
3. Leave Remember me on this device for 30 days ticked or clear it.
4. Select Send code.
5. The page changes to Check your email. and says it has sent a six-digit code to your address, shown masked (for example j***@garage.co.uk).
6. Type the six digits into the boxes. MOTLogs submits the code as soon as the sixth digit is entered. You can also select Continue or press Enter.

After a correct code you are taken to your first page. See After you sign in.

What if I have forgotten my passcode?

Enter your email address on the sign-in page, then select the link in the line under the Passcode field that offers to email the passcode. MOTLogs shows the message If that email is registered, we've sent the passcode to it.

The message is the same whether or not the address is registered, so it does not tell you if you mistyped. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder, check the address, and try again. If you left the email field empty you see Please enter your email address.; if it is not shaped like an address you see That doesn't look like an email address.

What does "Sorry this email address or passcode are unknown" mean?

MOTLogs did not find a user with that email address and passcode together. Check that:

• The email address is the one you registered with.
• You are using the passcode from your welcome email, not a one-time code.
• The passcode has no extra spaces.

If you still cannot get in, use the passcode reminder link. If you left the passcode field empty you see Please enter your passcode.

What if the one-time code does not arrive?

The code is sent to your email address only. It is valid for 20 minutes.

1. Check your spam or junk folder. The page reminds you to do this.
2. Wait for the countdown beside Resend code. After a code is sent, you must wait 30 seconds ("resend in 30s") before you can ask for another.
3. Select Resend code. The line then reads Sent again while the next countdown runs.
4. If the code is going to the wrong place, select Use a different email to go back to the first step.

Each new code replaces the last, so use the most recent email.

What if the code is wrong or has expired?

If the code is rejected, the boxes clear, the first box is focused, and you see That code wasn't right. Check it and try again, or resend a new one. A toast also appears. The same message appears if the code is more than 20 minutes old. Select Resend code and enter the new one.

If you enter fewer than six digits and select Continue, you see Please enter the 6-digit code.

If you see a network or "verify your code" error toast instead, the request did not reach MOTLogs. Check your connection and try again.

What happens when my session ends?

If you are idle for too long, or MOTLogs can no longer find your session, you are sent back to /signin with the note Your session ended — sign in to carry on. After you sign in again, MOTLogs returns you to the page you were on, as long as it is a page inside MOTLogs. Sign-in does not loop back to the sign-in page.

To end your session yourself, open the account menu (your picture, top right) and choose Logout.
