Setting a test station's opening hours

This page is for garage owners and Authorised Examiners who want to record when a test station is open, so MOTLogs can tell whether a test took place inside or outside those hours.

Why do opening hours matter?

MOTLogs compares the start time of each MOT test with the hours you record for the station. A test outside the Declared hours is flagged as outside declared hours, and a test inside a Lunch window is flagged as within lunchtime. Both show as reasons on a flagged test.

If the hours are missing or wrong, ordinary tests are flagged for the wrong reasons, or genuine out-of-hours tests are not flagged. Keep the hours in step with what you have declared to the DVSA.

Where do I set opening hours?

  1. Open Test stations in the sidebar and choose the Organisation.
  2. Click the station's row. It must be verified.
  3. Open the Hours tab.

The tab has a form on the left headed Hours and a list on the right headed Hours List. The list is empty at first and says "No opening hours set yet."

What types of hours can I record?

The dropdown at the top of the form offers three types:

Type Use it for
Normal Open The hours the station normally opens
Declared The hours declared to the DVSA. MOTLogs checks test times against these
Lunch The lunch break

Each type has its own dated records. Choosing a type in the dropdown loads the matching record into the form if one exists, or an empty form if not.

How do I add or change hours?

  1. Choose the Hours type in the dropdown.
  2. For each day from Monday to Sunday, set a start time and an end time. The time pickers move in 30-minute steps and show 24-hour times such as 08:30.
  3. Set From and To under the days. From is the first date the hours apply. To defaults to 31-Dec-9999, meaning no end.
  4. Select Submit Hours.

MOTLogs shows "The hours have now been saved" and the record appears in the Hours List.

A day you do not use should be left at 00:00 to 00:00.

How do I start a new set of hours when the old ones change?

Select Split. The form clears: every day returns to 00:00, From is set to today and To to 31-Dec-9999. Enter the new times and select Submit Hours.

To end the old hours at the same time, use the remove icon on the old record, described below. Hours of the same type cannot overlap in date. If they do, MOTLogs shows "You cannot set a start and end date which overlaps another record for this type of hours".

How do I remove or delete hours?

Each row in the Hours List has two icons:

The list shows ID, hour_type, a start date and an end date for each record. The hour_type column heading appears in that form on screen. Use Search to find a row. The toolbar button labelled Current switches between the default view and a view that includes older records. Its label does not change when you use it.
