What you see after you sign in

This page is for anyone signing in to MOTLogs. It explains which page opens first for each kind of user, and what the old Member route does.

Which page opens after I sign in?

After a correct one-time code, MOTLogs opens a short "Welcome back / Taking you to your page" screen at /membersarea/home and then moves you on. Where you land depends on your roles, checked in this order:

1. Anyone who is an Authorised Examiner, delegate or consultant at any of your organisations, land on Compliance (the Overview).
2. Site managers land on the At-risk list (the MOT test logs page filtered to At-risk tests).
3. Anyone else with a DVSA tester id on their profile lands on My work.
4. Everyone else lands on Compliance.

If you were sent to sign in from a particular page, for example after your session ended, MOTLogs returns you to that page instead. If you are new and not yet set up, you go to Complete Set Up first.

Why did I land on the sign-in page or the home page again?

/membersarea/home is a pass-through page, not a dashboard. If it cannot find your session, it sends you to the MOTLogs front page. Sign in again at /signin. Back does not bounce you through the pass-through page because it replaces its own history entry.

What is the Welcome help screen?

For your first few sign-ins (fewer than three), MOTLogs opens the Help dialog automatically on arrival with the Welcome first Time videos. Close it with the cross at its top right. You can open Help again at any time. See Finding your way around.

What does /membersarea/member do?

It is an old address from when the signed-in area was one page with tabs. It now only forwards you to the page that replaced each tab, keeping any filters in the link, so old bookmarks still work.

For example, /membersarea/member?tab=motlog&filter=risk opens the MOT test logs page with the risk filter. Update your bookmark to the new page when convenient.
