Reviewing a flagged test
This page is for AEs, quality control managers and garage owners who open a test from the MOT test log to see why it was flagged, compare it with the tester's usual times, and record a justification.
How do I open the review panel?
Click any row in the MOT test log. A panel slides in from the right. Its small heading reads Flagged for review, with the position in your queue if there is more than one, for example Flagged for review ยท 3 of 41. Under it is the number plate, and a pill:
- the strongest reason, in red or amber, for an unjustified at-risk test;
- Reviewed (with a tick) for a justified test;
- Not flagged for a test below the threshold.
Press Esc or click Close to leave the panel. Clicking any test opens the panel, flagged or not.
What does the panel show?
From the top, the panel shows:
- The tester's DVSA user ID, the station name and the start time of the test.
- Test time vs working hours (or DVSA hours): a bar from 06:00 to 24:00 showing when the station was open and when the test ran. A lunch band (assumed 12:00 to 14:00) is shown for lunchtime flags. If the station was closed that day the panel says so. If the start or end time is missing, it says "The start and end time of this test are not available."
- Duration vs tester median: bars for this test, the tester's median and all testers' median. A median needs at least three timed tests in the month; otherwise the panel says "Not enough tests this month to show a median."
- Reasons: each check that fired, with the numbers behind it, and a line such as
2nd of 5 "Outside declared hours" tests by this tester in this periodif the same reason repeats. - The severity line, for example
HIGH risk score 94.
The panel does not show the exact minimum or maximum test time or the exact lunch window the check used, and says so.
How do I justify a test from the panel?
Requires an unjustified test. The Justify this test box appears only for tests that are not already justified.
- Open the test by clicking its row.
- In Why was this test expected?, type your explanation (up to 2,000 characters), or click one of the reason chips: Customer waiting / quick retest, Second tester present, Vehicle brought back after repair, Appointment ran over lunch, or Other. A chip adds its text to the box; chips are added one after another separated by
;. Other addsOther:for you to finish. - Click Save, or Save & next (3 of 41) to save and open the next unjustified test in the list. Press Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter) to save and move on.
Save is disabled until you have typed something. Saving marks the test complete with your comment, exactly the same as ticking Mark as complete in the full record. The test turns blue (Justified) and leaves the At-risk view.
Skip moves to the next test without saving; on the last test the button reads Close.
What if saving fails?
A red message appears under the box:
- "Could not load the test record." or "Test record not found." means MOTLogs could not find the test. Reload the page and try again.
- "Sorry there has been an issue (500)." (the number may differ) means the save did not go through. Try again; if it persists, contact support.
The panel cannot attach an image. To add one, click Open the full record; see Justifying a test.
What does the panel show for a test that is already justified?
An Existing comment section shows the comment and "Reviewed". The footer has Close and View comment, which opens the full record where you can change or withdraw the justification.
